Friendly staff, mediocre food but the right price range.
The staff is horrible, people get disrespected and abused by "security guards." Shame on you
Best burger in town. Good value for money. Awesome service.
Love this place now that it's been redone! The service is a little slow, but not annoyingly so. If a waitress notices you need something, they get it, they don't make you wait for your server. Nachos are good, they have great meal sized salad choices now, and the sandwiches were tasty. The desserts were a little lacking....as in 1 of us ordered something they didn't have so she got her 2nd option but then when another girl came to join us and ordered the other girls first option they all of a sudden had it in stock...it was a bit weird but we still enjoyed every bite!
I love this place for the fabulous patio and the fantastic indoor decor! The Gavel has come a LONG way... The food was alright, the service was pleasant enough. There was a 'situation' in the kitchen so our food took a good hour to come to the table, at least we were served our drinks... Our waitress assured us she 'did not forget to place our food orders'. Either way we always have a great time here!
I just read all the reviews for the gown and I been coming here for years and I think this place is GREAT... AS Every week goes by me and my group of buddy's head done to the gown and gavel for a meal we were there on saturday the 19th for a dinner right before we headed to the Kings of Leon concert (which was great) We all ordered dinner dishes I had the fish and chips with a LB of wings to start. My food came out fast and tested amazing the and the service was good I would highly recommend it O and the reso is nice
I was there on a date with my new girlfriend and What a hot spot it is the patio is huge and the reso must of costed mint. we were sitting on the patio and had a spin dip to start. Then eat pizza and jumbo ravioli which were to die for. I think if you looking for a nice place to hang out or go on a date go here
Bletch! RE: G&G's Food! Fun summer patio is all it's worth. If you want boring, and very salty pub food then G&G is the place to be. Otherwise a cold summer pint to "people" watch it okay. Love the renovations! Too bad the food sucks.
Started going to G&G as a 19 y/o Highschooler on my lunch breaks, or during spares. It was a great place to sit on a nice, big patio, sip on a beer and much on some delicious wings. ...Not so much anymore! In only 6 years this place has managed to give itself a major face-lift --for better and for MUCH worse! Since the reno, which LOOKS great, the Food isn't even comparable to a good restaurant, and the service is disgusting (if you can find any). You'd think that since opening up the whole building, wait staff could have a great view of those coming in and out, but like other reviewers have posted, there's Zero Acknowledgement a the front gate. C'mon, G&G! Get back to your Roots of fantastic pub fare, matched by fantastic pub service! Not Toronto 'pub fare' with Toronto 'service' (or lack thereof)!
Server was great, food was very disappointing, rocket scientists are not working in the back. Nachos were all mashed up chips.. C'mon guys, how much are nachos these days, toss out the bottom of the bucket and give people chips that don't look like they were shook out from the bottom of the bag. I asked for no cheese and cheese was added to my burger and only removed from the salad, was on a time crunch so had no patience for such simple errors. I am so annoyed when i get a frozen burger too, easiest thing to make... will spend my money where the food gets some love.
I went for a work get-together for lunch yesterday. There were over 20 of us, so we sat upstairs. Very nice atmopshere, clean, and plenty of room. The number of us didn't affect the quality of the service. The waitresses were fast and courteous, and the cooks prepared the food quickly. Great service overall. I'll only speak for myself when I comment on the food. I had the Mandarin Wrap and fries. I was satisfied with the taste, portion, and prep. My "Maybe" for the visit again is due to location, not the quality of the place itself. A few more menu items would help, too. Overall, I was impressed.
The Drinks are way to expensive i will never go to the gown and gavel ever again!
I recently visited the Gown twice. Once on the 15th and again on the 17th. We arrived on the 17th at around 8:00 and we sat inside. Finally after 15 minutes of waiting I had to ask a manager if I could get service. We probably had 6 or 7 different waitresses walk by our table withour stopping to ask if we needed anything. The service after that was pretty mediocre. There a long wait betwen ordering a drink & getting a drink, which I'm confused by because there are three bars and 3-5 people working behind each. Food was good. Service laughable. I went back on Sunday and sat on the patio. After a 10 minute wait my boyfriend and I just got up and left. I wasn't about to play that game again. It's a nice bar & the food is good but the waitstaff need to get their asses in gear. It's not like either time was incredibly busy. There were people standing around talking. Lets hope that most of you are new.
8 of us went for dinner before last nights Dylan concert. Warm white wine arrived about 15 minutes after the beers that were ordered. Dinners started to arrive one by one taking more than an hour before the last people were served. All but the two people served last were well finished before the last dinners arrived. The shrimp skewers were absolutely impossible to eat they were so dried out and overcooked. Four people ordered vegetable sides with their meal, only one got their side. We complained many times. The server was no help and the manager (we spoke to two) were at a loss. They said they were overwhelmed by the crowd but when we phoned for reservations they told us to arrive before six because they expected to be full that night. Manager's solution was to charge us only a dollar for the shrimp skewer dinner that no-one could eat anyway. All of us agree it was the worst dinner experience we have ever had. We expected much more of the food and service but even an apology would have helped. Don't go there.
way over priced. the food tasted like it was out of a box and the drinks were noticably lacking an alcohol flavour, the jack and coke and the rum and coke tasted the same and the beer was foamy and warm. yuck! the service wasn't great, had to go to the bar for drinks, no table service for long periods of time and it took forever for the machine to pump out the drinks. there is a lot to be said for the human touch. not a great experience and wouldn't recommend any one else wasting their time and money at this place.
My brother was taking my wife and I out for my birthday, we went to another restaurant which was closed and we decided to go to the Gown as it was recently renovated. The space looks real nice, end of the compliments. We should have know it would be bad as it rained all weekend and we were one of two parties yet both waitresses looked us over and took more than 10 minutes to come to our table to take a drink order. Q. What kind of beer do you have on tap? A. Good Question!! Q. Can we get menus? A. I will try to get some out to you. My Club was pretty good, my wife ordered a steak sandwich, it came without the sandwich, the waitress then told her she didn't order the sandwich , we said we would eat the steak and she said she would bring some buns ( never appeared), one app came , the othe came after our entrees. Mayo was creamy coleslaw dressing. Wife's steak tasted like it had been grilled on a frying pan. Food was horrible. We let the waitress know and she offered to get owner ( she couldn't muster the use of the electronic ordering palm device that she had either). We said not to worry as didn't want to get into it. When the bill came we were charged for the steak ( we only wanted the sandwich). Manger must now be summoned. When he came my wife started telling him about the problems and his answer, Just the Facts Ma'am- Dragnet Joe Friday is the manager. 15 minutes go by while he is adjusting the bill and then he sends out some other kid who tells us that the Visa was run through and we could either take 20 dollars back cash or wait for another manager to come in who knows how to cancel a transaction on the VISA. This was one of the worst dining experiences ever. We were trying to decide on Koi across the street or this dump and obviously we came to the wrong place. Never , ever again.
The condition of this establishment has 100% gone down hill. The quality of the food was okay, once we recieved our food. The bartendar and waitress were too busy complaining about how "brutal" management is and how "greedy" the owners are to even offer to refill our drinks. Granted they may have had a bad day... but this is a business, patrons should not be subjected to that kind of gossip. If you want quality food and service...avoid Gown And Gavel at all costs. Jen.L.
I've been coming to the Gown and Gavel for many years now. I've seen nothing but improvments since the new owner took over. Ther service I have always recived has been great and very personal. I always order the nachos and the wings.I was informed tonight that they are under going a re-vamp of the building and will have a whole new menu, the girl on duty actually took the time to bring out the new head cheif they hired so I could meet him, he told me of the new items they will be having and eveything sound wonderful.
not bad but the quality of the wings have gone down
The food was horrible. We had wings and it was obvious the reputation about the wings being good has changed. The vodka & iced tea was definately watered down. It was the first drink my husband ordered so could definately tell. We ordered another with the mix on the side - what a difference. The women's bathroom was not clean.
