I recently had lunch (3rd time) at Envers of Morriston, and WOW. What an amazing little secret just south of Guelph. The food was amazing, and watching the Chefs walk out to the garden and get the vegetables and herbs that were going into my food was refreshing. The food was absolutely amazing. Thank you for the amazing food and hospitality.....I will definitely be returning!!
i would never go back. The seating for two is awful in this place on the main floor. Don't sit near the door in when it is could outside. Awful it is that restaurants would even have a table near such. Disgusting to have to go into the kitchen to pay with a credit card; bizarre; hopefully not the case anymore. The food was delicious, but the portions are ridiculously small and expensive. I have no problem dropping money for food, but this experience left me bewildered.
Went there for the 2nd time last night for a special occasion and we were not disappointed. The appetizer plate for 2 was excellent with a great sampling of chutney, duck procioutto, soft shell crab and cheeses...very complimentary. The mains for all 6 of us were superb...I had the elk which was very tender but I was more surprised with my wife's rabbit which was very tasty. Overall, our guests from out of town were impressed and it is great to have a culinary experience close to home without having to drive close to Toronto....
Well, this is just the best restaurant in the Guelph/Aberfoyle/Morriston region that I have been to. It was the sort of meal that makes you unwittingly slow down, let tastes linger and sounds soften. Honestly, the culinary expertise, wonderful wine and perfect balance between creativity and pure, distinct flavours makes this a restaurant to remember. The service was modest and friendly, and their focus on seasonal and locally grown produce is yet another feature to appreciate. Of course, this sort of ethereal experience doesn't come at a pub price, but frankly, if you intend to dine at a fine establishment you should intend to pay a bit more. We had the appetizer sampler (great choice!) and the elk loin and quail for our main course. So many chefs attempt to paint the plate with far too many contrasting flavours in a misdirected effort to prove their individuality, but Envers shines with accomplishment and undeniable skill in comparison. It so happens that our visit was a celebratory dinner, though I don't think I can limit our visits to a few special celebrations a year!
We had a staff Christmas party at Envers this evening. There were 14 guests all together. I was a bit skeptical about our seating arrangements in the new private dining room sice there were two hand hewn beams near our table. Our seats were very comfortable and the veiw of the exposed stone walls and fire place was very nice. The Service food and ambiance was outstanding. Meals were well paced and ranged from Lamb, Elk, Pasta, and Pickeral. Deserts were outstanding. The focus and attention to detail that our waitress provided was awesome. We coordinated this evening with Terry who delivered everything that was promised. Great job guys and we cant wait until our next visit!!!
Great food and atmosphere. The service was "technical" and well performed albeit a little cold. The service definitely had a "we know we are awesome" attitude and I think being a little more humble would bring up my overall experience. Otherwise, the food is just that, awesome. Same with the atmosphere. Also, an added benefit is that your wallet won't be as heavy when you leave. If you plan on having a drink or two you'll be well into the $100/head range. Also plan on having a DD if you want to have more than 2. Not much public transport out this way. Definitely worth trying out and deciding for yourselves...
Fantastic dinner. I don't think there is finer true cuisine in such close proximity to Guelph. The gnocchi was divine, melted like butter. The salad with browned mushrooms and sheep's milk asiago a perfect combination. The tapas size menu portions not for everyone as it can be quite expensive for one evening out. I know I would have been equally happy with one heaping plate of the perfect gnocchi.
This restaurant is one of our all-time favourites. Many fine restaurants in the GTA cannot hold a candle to this one.
just discovered this site and had to leave this review. been there a few times food has always been outstanding. but the waitress who i believe is related to the owner has been rude twice. the last time one of my dining companions ordered 2 appetizers(which we all were sharing) and an entre.when the second one had not appeared after 15 minutes i asked the waitress about it. she rudely snapped back it was an "intermediate"and she was bringing it now. what the heck is an intermediate? on the other occasion she did not like the way my wife wanted her bison cooked nor my choice of a $35 bottle bottle of wine. i am surprised i have not read a comment about her before because before kids we ate out alot and were never treated like this. i cannot be the only person she has been if the young chef was not so fabulous i would never consider returning.
I took a work group to Envers for dinner after a team building event and it certainly capped the day off well! A great find in a quaint location. People were still talking about the meal a week later. Food, atmosphere, presentation, and service were all excellent.
Incredible! Hadn't been to Envers in about 3 years, but the food, service and atmosphere surpassed our expectations. Food presentation was awesome - in keeping with the amazing and subtle flavours. Having recently revisited the establishment (on a scouting mission), we plan to invite close friends there to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary next week. It doesn't get any better than this, even if you travel to Toronto or Montreal, etc. And the casual, informal atmosphere is warm and inviting.
What a delightful place! With the hustle and bustle of Highway 6 outside, Envers is an oasis. The servers were friendly, knowledgeable and did not rush us. Food was delicious. I would go back any time!
A phenomnela restaurant with great food and even better service. This is not a fast food restaurant so expect about 2 hours plus for the entire meal. The selection is not huge but the chef can also put together things that may not be on the menu or were on it prior to a recent change. Can not recommend more highly...
My wife and I have eaten at Enver's four times in the past year and we think it's the best restaurant in the Guelph area. Last August the Chef created a special tasting menu for our wedding anniversary which was excellent. We think the service is great, food is well cooked with excellent flavour and the wine list has some great finds. We will be back on a regular basis!
Having dined there a few times over the years, we have found it to be very consistent. Great, attentive service. Good quality food. I would consider it fine dining without the stuffy atmosphere. Make reservations as it has a small capacity.
What a breath of fresh air. I have been to a lot of so called "elegant" restaurants. Sampled their food and have been almost satisfied. It was a search on the internet that brought us to Envers. And when we pulled up I thought that we'd be in for the same thing again. But that changed when we walked through the door and experienced great service from beginning to end. From the moment we go there our hostess too our coats and sat us our table. Of course we'd made reservations and were a little early but they had no problem getting us in a little early. We had an great server who had a lot of knowledge of the products she would be serving. Even going out of the way to get us a starter that was not on the menu. When you are at a great restaurant you want to sit back and relax take your time and soak in your experience. It does take a little longer that the usual high turn around restaurant, but if you want in and out, fast food would be your choice. Everything was amazing and I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is surfing the web trying to find an elegant classy restaurant with the food and service to match.
We had heard alot of good things about this restaurant so we were excited to go, but we were quite disappointed. While the food was not bad ,it wasn't extraordinary either. The real problem was the service. It was excruciatingly slow,it actually took 3 hours to finish a simple service of appetizer ,entree and desert. We literally waited 25 minutes after finishing the appetizer to get the entree.
