Although none of them see reptiles, there are a number of veterinarian clinics to choose from in St. Albert, with specialties including cat care, eye care and pain treatment options. Two of the clinics accommodate some pocket pets and two offer adoption services. And, if you have a cat or a dog in need of TLC, you have half a dozen locations to consider. Seeing cats and dogs as patients, the Sturgeon Animal Hospital has a unique specialty: An ophthalmologist on staff who accepts referrals from other veterinarians seeking a second opinion about a pet’s eyes. Additional services offered in this clinic on the north end include nutritional consultations, dentistry, surgery and in-house radiology.
One of only two vet clinics in St. Albert that accommodates some “pocket pets,” patients seen here (other than cats and dogs) are guinea pigs, ferrets and rabbits. In addition to its wide range of services, including oncology, microchip implantation and ultrasounds, the clinic has an Adopt-a-Pet program and a coin-operated dog wash, complete with shampoo and conditioner! Pulsed Signal Therapy (PST) is also available here, a treatment which helps ease the suffering of pets with joint and inflammatory diseases, including osteoarthritis and hip dysplasia.
In business for more than three decades, this clinic sees rabbits, guinea pigs and ferrets for vaccinations and examinations, in addition to services for cats and dogs. Emergency services for pets are offered during regular business hours. Mission Ridge Animal Hospital is the only clinic in St. Albert to offer a blog on its website, covering topics ranging from ticks to pet insurance to why guinea pigs make good pets.
The St. Albert Animal Clinic is one of two in St. Albert that not only cares for pets but also offers adoptions. The downtown clinic works with dogs and cats, its most unique offering being laser therapy and acupuncture for pain control. Their website offers links to resources for dog and cat care, as well as a newsletter covering subjects, such as nail trimming and canine coughing.
Red Willow clients are pet owners with dogs and/or cats, and the clinic’s website offers extensive links for pet owners. It includes an online “pet medical library,” with extensive links to articles for dog and cat owners on topics including behaviour, diseases and drugs. The website also offers information about reconnecting with lost pets, travelling with pets, life after the death of a pet, helping injured animals in the wild, pet health and pet poison control resources.
