I recently celebrated my birthday at a restaurant, and I must say the server was outstanding - knowledgeable, polite, and attentive. The rest of the staff were equally friendly. The food was excellent; we opted for the Dine-Out menu, and the recommended drinks paired perfectly. I'll definitely be returning for another visit. We were a party of 14 and sat in the main restaurant area. The service was excellent. We brought our own wine and paid a low corkage fee. No hard liquor allowed of your own! Our host ordered a set menu and additional dishes. All items were prepared well and tasty excellent. My only comment would be there was two times where the individualized food plates came out too soon and I was still working on my previous dish so the table got crowded. You don't want to miss the Happy Hour BBQ course, because it's just that great. I'm not a huge fan of the chicken garlic fried noodles as the pasta was thick, but I do appreciate how the noodles were a little crispy on the outside. Service can be slow but in general the servers I've had have always been nice and willing to help, but because it's often busy, it may take a little bit longer to get you what you need. I used to be a hostess so I know how stressful it can be and they usually don't get as much credit as they deserve. Overall, still the great dine out! Read more

We arrived a little late for without reservations, but the restaurant had a table and seated us immediately (was a full house). My dinner companion ordered a glass of wine (sauvignon blanc) which was delivered promptly. I had Shiraz. We ordered the salade. The salad was crisp, fresh with crunch toasted walnuts, sweet roasted beets, and tangy raspberry viniagrette. The prawns were fabulous, seared tender and sweet, prepared with lemon butter, tomatoes and capers. Our entrees were the New York steak and she ahd salmon. Both were very good, prepared just right with a light charred crust. Did not stay for dessert, as we were out of time and had other commitments (hotel reservation) and a curfew. Our server was attentive, without being intrusive, and very helpful with explaining the menu choices. Unfortunately, he was a he. Room was dark, clean, lots of wood tones... room is a little packed, but acceptable because the darkness assured privacy. Read more

Yaletown Brewing Company was one of the first restaurants involved in the revitalization of Yaletown and the fact that they're still here has got to tell you something. They make good food and, since they are a brew pub, they make great beer. Like all the other Mark James Group restaurants they offer the cheap beer and pizza nights that my family and I enjoy so much but quite often we head here for all the other great items on the menu too! If you can't decide which beer you want to try ask the server for one of their tasting flights where you get four different beers to sample. The location is outstanding and they have a lounge on one side and restaurant on the other so if you just want drinks and appys after work they are a great spot to choose! Last time we were there I had the Jakarta bowl with lamb tenderloin in a soy sauce with peppers and it was outstanding, My folks were with us and they swore by the fish and chips as well. One other cool thing that Yaletown does is if there is a game on at Rogers Arena they offer shuttle service to the game. So go on down to Yaletown Brewing Company and check them out! Read more
